S. Gale Whitfield is currently the principal of Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science in Winnsboro, S.C. In addition, she has over 24 years of experience working at the levels of principal, assistant principal and teacher in public education in districts in the Upstate and Midlands.
Whitfield’s leadership has earned Fairfield Magnet school for Math and Science state and national recognition for the outstanding performance of the students and staff. The school won the prestigious Palmetto’s Finest School, At-Risk School High Flying School Award, National School Choice Leadership Award, and Palmetto Gold and Silver Award winning school since 2014.Whitfield has been recognized for providing outstanding leadership at the elementary level for improving learning for all students. She currently serves as a Palmetto’s Finest observer, member of the PSTA, ASCD, and SCASA. Whitfield is a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University.
The capstone of her tenure as principal for Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science was the announcement of her rural poverty school receiving Palmetto’s Finest because many believed it could not be done. Whitfield will always be an advocate for education and arts opportunities for all children because she believes as Marva Collins does that there is brilliance inside every child.
